Tis’ Flea Season!

We know we know – it is still November! BUT – Concord Veterinary Hospital has a Christmas Flea Control promotion that will run from now until New Years Eve 2017!

If you purchase any two packets of the following products – you will receive 10% off the total cost of the products – and the more you buy the more you save!

Products include Bravecto (dogs only – also prevents ticks!), Comforts (cats and dogs), Advantage (cats and dogs), Advantix (strictly dogs only – also prevents ticks!) and Activyl (a new product for cats!).

For example – if you purchase two boxes of Bravecto at $50/box, you will pay $90 saving $10!

And remember – we are already much much cheaper than most large pet stores such as Petbarn.

At this time of year in Concord and surrounds – fleas are abundant. The rainy humid days followed by warm sunny days are PERFECT breeding conditions for fleas and about this time of year we see many many animals with fleas and all the associated problems that come along with fleas (flea allergy dermatitis, hair gastritis in cats, tapeworm and even a blood parasite transmitted by fleas in cats!).

The best way for your pets to not get fleas is – PREVENTION! Prevention is so much better than cure – ask anyone (including Dr David and Dr Rebecca who’s cat Giles had a flea outbreak a few years ago!) who has had a flea outbreak.
Think indoor animals are protected? Think again – there is nothing worse than having a flea infestation in an apartment – and the flea eggs and larvae can come into your apartment on your shoes!

Finally – purchasing flea products from the supermarket really is a waste of your time and your money. In the end we don’t mind where you buy your flea products – so long as it is quality (from us, pet stores, online). The “flea control” products available from supermarkets are about as useful as “lighting a $20 note and spreading the ash on your pet” – as some of you might have heard Dr David say!!

August is Dental Health Month!

August is Dental Health Month! Our amazing team of veterinary nurses and veterinarians can inform you all about dental health and keeping your pets teeth clean!

Concord Veterinary Hospital offers a comprehensive dentistry service to our canine and feline patients. We are equipped with an new advanced veterinary dental machine and have a separate anaesthetic machine specifically for our dental procedures. Our Veterinarians have a combined experience of 30 years with animal dentistry, and are passionate about your pets dental health!

Dental care is vital in keeping our cats and dogs healthy, as unhealthy teeth can lead to serious problems.

Did you know that 80% of dogs and 70% of cats show signs of oral disease by age three?

Dental checks are performed at your pet’s annual check-up, however, in older animals, a dental check should be performed every 6 months.

If you are at all concerned about your pet’s teeth, come and visit us during our consultation hours for a dental check up!

Concord Veterinary Hospital is very proud to announce that we received the 2014 Access Award at the Canada Bay Council Sustainability awards presented by Mayor Angelo Tsirekas.

We are very proud to have easy and level access from our carpark, around to the front door and through our hospital. We believe that it is very important for every member of our community to have easy access to veterinary care for their much loved furry family members. We would like to say a big thankyou to one of our clients who nominated us for this award!

We are proud to announce that Concord Veterinary Hospital is now a Practice Member of the International Society of Feline Medicine (ISFM) and supports International Cat Care.

We are also in the process of becoming an Accredited Cat Friendly Clinic – which means that our premises, procedures and practice staff meet the Cat Friendly Guidelines specified by the ISFM. We already provide what we believe to be excellent cat care, and through the accreditation scheme, we hope to improve even further!

Dog lovers don’t worry – we also pride ourselves on excellent canine care too!

Dental Month

August is officially Dental Month! Dental disease is very common in our pets – did you know that approximately 85% of dogs and cats over the age of 3 years have some form of dental disease? This month is all about informing our clients about dental disease and checking pets for any sign of dental problems. Cats and dogs can hide dental problems and oral pain very well – most owners do not know that their pet has any signs of dental problems until there is significant dental disease present. That’s why we are encouraging all pet owners to have a dental check up this month.

A dental check up for your pet includes a consultation with one of our veterinarians, a full oral examination and a full physical examination. We can then advise if there is any dental disease present and formulate a dental plan for your pet.

If you would like more information, please do not hesitate to call us on 9743 1715 or visit us during our consultation hours. Also, check out our dentistry page for some more information on our dentistry services.
