Personality
Burmese cats tend to be outgoing and friendly to humans, and have even been described as more dog-like than cat-like! People are often apprehensive of cats’ reputations for being aloof and unfriendly, so the affectionate Burmese are understandably a popular choice of cat for a family pet. They can even be trained to fetch! Burmese cats will come to the door and greet you when you arrive home. They are outgoing and lively, and love to be around people, making them great companions for the kids! (and for yourself of course!)
Burmese are curious, intelligent and like to explore. Mechanical things and moving things bring hours of fun for Burmese. A word of warning: they have been known to learn how to use door handles fairly quickly, and owners have had to adjust their door handles accordingly!
Being very social creatures, Burmese enjoy and need company, from humans as well as other cats or animals. If you have a busy lifestyle involving many stints where your Burmese would be left home alone, it may be best to get two kittens so they can keep each other company.
Appearance
Burmese are muscular, athletic, and elegant, with short, even and glossy hair. Being very muscular, they are very heavy for their size and owners are often surprised at how much they weigh, even describing them as “bricks wrapped in silk”! Male adults tend to be a bit larger, while females are more elegant and delicate looking. Burmese come in a variety of colours, the original colour being a warm brown. Other colours include blue, lilac, red, chocolate and cream.
