Do you take your pet to be a loved member of your family? At Concord Vets we believe that our little furry friends are a source of a lot of joy and companionship. Pets age at a rate that is significantly faster than humans, but they are unable to voice it when they start to experience aches and pains. Taking them for annual checkups is the only way to prevent the disease from progressing without being detected. At Concord Vets we offer yearly wellness health checks and cat health checks. By taking advantage of this amazing offer, you can be certain that your pet is not suffering in silence.Below we have the different things that we do during our vet health check. To find out more, keep reading.

1.    Weight in

When your pet comes into the clinic, the first thing that we do is record its weight. This will help us with all the other medical decisions that may need to be done later on in the wellness check process. During the initial exam, we will look at your pet’s general body condition, coat and look out for any skin problems. If need be, we will calculate your pet’s ideal weight and discuss a weight management plan.

2.    Detailed examination

The detailed examination starts by examination of the ears, mouth, teeth and eyes. We auscultate the chest and listen out for any irregularities in your pet’s heart and lungs. We will palpate the abdomen for any organ changes. On the limbs, we will check for any indication of arthritis. The rest of the body will be felt for any growths. If the pet is male, we will perform an anal check as well as a prostrate exam. If you have any areas of worry, we will take this chance to discuss them and do the appropriate exams.

3.    Laboratory tests

Blood and urine will be taken and these samples will be sent to the laboratory for testing. These tests are used to detect abnormalities that cannot be felt by just a routine examination. Any irregularities will be further probed until we get to the root cause of the problem. If you are having problems with tasks such as administering worm pills or with clipping toenails, we can help you with those as well. We will also get your pet started on a suitable flea ad worm program. It is important to know that as pets age, they are more likely to start having health challenges. So the older your pet grows, the more important it becomes that you stick to their health and wellness check-up schedule. If you have any inquiries or you need to visit our hospital, call us today!
